Weekend Recap

Mow, mow, mow. Play with Wyatt. Mow, mow, mow. Visit the relatives. Mow, mow, mow. Watch a little television. Rinse and repeat. Can you guess what we did this weekend? Yes, Mommy and Daddy spent more time on the riding mower this past weekend than the entire past two months combined. The yard looks much better, though, and now we can enjoy the next couple of days before it's time to mow again. Just kidding. :)

And what did Mr. Wyatt do? He boogied all over the living room floor, of course! If you'd been confined to car seats, strollers, cribs and loved ones' arms for the past seven months, wouldn't you be excited to be independently mobile, too? And yes, folks, we do mean all over the living room floor. Unfortunately, his favorite destinations seem to be the ickiest spots, including the dogs' beds and the floor underneath the couch. The latter has actually become one of his favorite places to stash toys. Mommy keeps finding plastic easter eggs and books under there. (We think he learned that trick from Nellie; one of her favorite games is "make Mommy fish my stinky tennis ball out from under the couch.")

Aside from cutting grass and chasing our boy around, we also enjoyed some quality time with family this weekend. We visited Grandma Stenglein and hung out with Grandma and Grandpa Hickle on Sunday. Wyatt got to try out ye olde family high chair for the first time. On Sunday we went to Nana and Papaw's and hung out with them and Uncle Brad and Kaitlyn. Wyatt enjoyed watching Little Frank, Uncle Brad's weiner dog, run around. It was nice to see everyone!

And because every blog post needs a little cuteness, here ya go:

Wyatt can crawl!

Music Man

Every Tuesday morning, Wyatt and Mommy head to music class for fun songs and dancing. Our instructor, Miss Jodi, brings lots of neat instruments for the babies to play, including the gathering drum. Rum-a-tum-tum, rum-a-tum-tum, Wyatt is playing on the drum!

Wyatt is still learning the fine art of pounding out a rhythm. He likes to place his hands on the drum and feel the vibrations while the other babies "make music" on it. Occasionally he'll tap on the drum, but he seems to prefer looking around and observing.

One of our favorite songs is "Bouncing with my Mommy". I'm bouncing with my mommy, my mommy, my mommy. I'm bouncing with my mommy. Whoa! Whoa! Whooooooaaa!

All the babies really enjoy that last part, especially when the mommies lift them high up into the air. That's Wyatt's friend, Rachel, and her mommy, Michelle on the right. They're in our playgroup. Alex and his mommy, Christine, are also in our music class and playgroup.

Every week Miss Jodi chooses a theme for our music and dance. This week was "Bugs" and we had fun singing The Itsy Bitsy Spider and dancing around like butterflies with our scarves. Wyatt loved it when Mommy dragged the scarf over his face.

We really enjoy our Tuesday music classes! If you'd like to see more photos and watch a video of the "Bouncing with my Mommy" song, visit Miss Jodi's website: http://www.mommyandmemakemusic.com/.

And a big thank you goes out to Miss Jodi for sharing these photos with us!

Weekend Recap

It was a weekend of traffic jams, chicken on a stick, bargain hunting and secondhand treasures--yes folks, it was the Trenton Garage Sale Extravaganza! This event personifies the phrase "One man's junk is another man's treasure." And we found a few treasures along the way, including four sets of pajamas for Wyatt, a baby walker for Wyatt, a sweater vest for Wyatt (noticing a theme here?). Okay, okay. Mommy did buy Daddy something--a handsome magazine rack for the downstairs bathroom. Klassy!

Saturday was spent perusing the sales, but Sunday was devoted to making some sales of our own. We toted some of our junk--er, treasures--over to Nana's house where she was having a sale along with her friend, Holly, and Auntie Kim. Here are some of our fine wares:

Overall, we considered the day a success based on the fact that we unloaded a lot of unwanted stuff. Mommy's favorite moment was selling a pair of Bubba teeth to a little boy on a bicycle. Good times! Speaking of good, we had some good eatin' too! Every year a family in Nana's neighborhood sells a delectable little dish called Chicken on a Stick. Here are Kitty and Bert enjoying some:

Yeah, okay, we don't know anyone named Kitty or Bert, but Mommy had to change the names and alter the photo to protect the innocent. It seems that some ladies don't find it flattering to have their photos taken while they're eating. Go figure!

While Mommy was eating and selling, Wyatt spent the day playing in his exersaucer, being held by Nana and Papaw, and people watching. He seemed to enjoy all three! In fact, he had so much fun that he passed out when Papaw took him for a stroller ride:

Yes, he can sleep in that position. And, yes, he would instantly wake up if we tried to move him.

So it was a good weekend all around. We're looking forward to next year's Extravaganza!

Fun with Food, Part 2

Okay, the winner is...green beans! And they are absolutely his favorite by far! He will reach for the spoon and pull it to his mouth so he can take a bite. He even ate some off of his own fingers today. This should not surprise us, though, as Mommy and Daddy both love green beans, too (just not in puree form).

Fun with Food

We're continuing to give Wyatt solid foods (well, pureed solid foods), sometimes twice a day. Tonight he tried a new food and he decided to have some fun with it...

Yes, he really did get some of the food in his mouth, we promise. But he also managed to get it all over the high chair, on his sleeves, between his chins, caked on his hands, and even a little on Mommy's arm. But doesn't he look innocent?

We were surprised that he was willing to eat this new food so readily. Now, let's have a little fun of our own, shall we? What food do you think Wyatt tried tonight? Leave your answer in the comments section of this post and we'll see who knows their purees best!

"What, you expect me to eat that?"

First Reds Game

Yesterday Wyatt attended his first Cincinnati Reds baseball game. Daddy got tickets at work and we traveled down to the big city with Grandma Mary and Grandpa Danny. Upon arriving, we found out that our seats were in the Champions Club, which meant we got access to food and drinks for free. Yes, people, you read that right--FREE! Daddy was so excited about los nachos libres.

We had a great view of the action looking right at the first baseline. In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness, many of the players used pink bats and sported pink wristbands. Here's Jay Bruce (who scored an awesome homerun!):

Wyatt was very good during the game. He looked around at all the people, watched Daddy eat nachos, listened to the music and noise, and chewed on his new favorite toy, a plastic water bottle:

He also spent some time examining Grandpa's hat, as well as his own...

We're looking forward to going back to another game soon. Even though the home team lost, it was a lot of fun for the whole family!

Happy Mother's Day!

Wyatt vs. Sock Monkey

It was a battle of epic proportions in the pack-n-play recently as Wyatt "Crazy Hair" Hickle took on the cunning, yet clumsy, Sock Monkey. Things got off to a rough start as the monkey came out swinging. He easily got Crazy Hair down on his back. It wasn't looking good for the local hero.

The champ wasn't going down without a fight, though. He stealthily got the challenger's arm...

Yes, those long monkey limbs can be an asset when throwing a punch or a roundhouse kick, but they can just as easily be used against you. Whoa, folks, take a look at what happened when young Crazy Hair went for his opponent's face! Ow, that had to hurt!

Things never quite turned back around for the challenger. The champ showed no mercy as he placed his foe in a modified headlock. Look at the pain in Sock Monkey's face!

Mere seconds later, the pooped primate threw in the towel, making Wyatt "Crazy Hair" Hickle the undisputed heavyweight champion of the pack-n-play!

(Okay, maybe we shouldn't let Wyatt watch "The Ultimate Fighter" anymore.)

A Weekend of Ups and Downs

We had quite a weekend here in the Hickle household! Saturday morning we celebrated Wyatt's seven-month birthday with our monthly b-day photo session. He was his usual happy, healthy self, and afterwards we went out to do a little shopping. When we got home, Mommy noticed some hives developing on Wyatt's legs. A bit later, we noticed some on his arms. A call to the pediatrician did not bring good news: our little guy was about to make his first trip to the emergency room.

Thankfully we have a Children's Hospital campus nearby, and they took good care of Wyatt. It was a long night of waiting in the lobby and then in the exam room, but he was a trooper. By the time the nurse-practitioner saw him, it was about a quarter past midnight, well past bedtime! We were relieved to hear that the hives hadn't spread to his mouth or airway. He's too little for Benadryl (unless the hives became more severe), so they told us to just take him home and watch him closely. By the next morning, the hives were fading and Mommy and Daddy breathed a deep sigh of relief. We hope we never have to see our little guy in a hospital bed again!

Sunday brought more excitement, but of a happier sort. Nana, Papaw, Grandma, Grandpa Danny, Grandpa Carl, Uncle Brad, and his girlfriend, Kaitlyn, came over to celebrate Mommy's birthday. It was so much fun to see everyone! Daddy surprised Mommy with a Central Pastry cake wreck:

Yes, it says, "Put Happy B-Day Jill" on it. Hilarious! (If you don't know what a cake wreck is, go here now! Seriously, don't wait!) Daddy, you're awesome!

Mommy isn't normally a fan of her birthday, but having loved ones, especially her wonderful husband and amazing son, around made it a perfect day. Here's proof:

Seven Months

Happy Seven-Month Birthday to our little smiley, roly-poly boy! We love you!
