Half Past Three

Little Wyatt, it can't be possible that you are closer to four than you are to three, but so you are. This age is so full of contradictions. On the one hand, you are able to do so many things for yourself. Just this morning you made your own waffle (complete with "quit-it" butter, your name for "i can't believe it's not butter"). You can dress and undress yourself. You can climb into the car. You can empty all the trash cans. Yet, for all the things you do on your own, there are plenty of things you insist you need help with. These include putting on your tennis shoes, going upstairs or to the bathroom in the dark, and cleaning up messes.

Also a study in contradictions is the plethora of moods you go through in one day. Sometimes you can be so happy and sweet, telling Mommy and Daddy that you love them so much. You even say, "I'll keep you forever," which is the most adorable thing Mommy has ever heard. Sometimes, you can be so helpful, even to little Colby. The other day he fell and hurt himself and you hurried to get his blankie to bring it to him. Sometimes you are quiet and focused. You can sit and rearrange your toy trash cans for long stretches of time.

Sometimes, though, you are frustrated and insistent. Tantrums at mealtimes are a frequent occurrence around here. (If there is anyone who would like to come and feed our children dinner while Mommy and Daddy go do more fun things like, oh say, cleaning toilets or getting root canals, please let us know!) Sometimes you are easily annoyed by your brother, and you like to annoy him back. This usually involves a toy, although it can also involve wrestling with each other. Sometimes you are shy. Mommy often sees this side of you when we go to MOMS Club meetings. You freeze at the door, refusing to enter the room and asking if we can just go home. After awhile, though, you can be convinced to come inside and sit on Mommy's lap. Gradually, you feel more willing to get down and go play with the other kids.

Mr. Wyatt, you are growing by leaps and bounds. You are a big boy who sleeps in a toddler bed now. Just last week, you started calling us Mom and Dad instead of Mommy and Daddy. And oddly enough, you love to tell us to look at your feet, a command which is often followed by a foot thrust into our faces. You seem to think your feet are getting huge and will soon be fitting into Daddy's shoes.

Not a day goes by that you don't amuse us or impress us with your actions and statements. We love you, Wyatt!

Easter Happenings

We had a lot of fun with Easter festivities over the last week. On Wednesday we went to Storytime at the Library and created lovely Easter crafts. Miss Annette read us some really cute and funny rabbit-themed books, and we even sang Colby's favorite song, "Tick Tock".

On Friday, we headed over to Nana's house to dye some Easter eggs. Oh Lordy, if you've never dyed Easter eggs with three toddlers, you're missing out on a wacky experience!

Notice how Wyatt has a sneaky grin on his face, Ava looks fretfully cautious, and Colby is just going for it whole-hog. Nana absolutely had her hands full! And speaking of hands...

Yep, after awhile, Wyatt decided that utensils were way overrated and started "bear-pawing" it, grabbing the eggs out of the cups with his bare hands. Colorful!

On Saturday we headed out to a local church for an Easter egg hunt. The little ones got a little distracted, so they didn't really collect loads of eggs. Colby opened his first egg and found a Reese cup inside; he was done!

Wyatt froze at the beginning of his hunting experience (And who wouldn't, considering they were hunting eggs in a cemetery!?), but once he found his groove, his basket filled up quite quickly.

Later on Saturday, we went to Aunt Cheryl's house for a ham dinner. The boys had fun playing outside and, of course, hunting for more eggs! We also celebrated two birthdays--Mamaw's and Aunt Suzie's. Easter candy and cake! Who could ask for anything more?

On Sunday morning, we awoke to discover that the Easter bunny had visited our playroom and left some special treats for us. Wyatt got four new toy-sized trash cans. He also got a copy of the wonderful children's book Grandma Drove the Garbage Truck.

Colby got a huge Bruder backhoe. Or, as he says it, "BACKHOE! BACKHOE!" He's had a lot of fun scooping up Legos, but he has had to fend off several attempts by his brother to take over ownership of said backhoe.

As for Mommy and Daddy? Well, the bunny left Mommy an Amazon gift card so she can get the final two books of The Hunger Games. Daddy got a handsome Easter bonnet--er, mowing hat. It has an awesome fabric flap on the back to prevent him from becoming a redneck. Thank you, Easter bunny!

We had so much fun spending time with our family this weekend, but the best part was definitely the kids' joy at finding eggs and discovering their Easter baskets. We hope you had a wonderful Easter, too!

Happy Birthday, Mamaw!

Easter Sunday is also Mamaw Mary's birthday! We hope she has a wonderful day! We love you very much!
