March in Pictures

We had fun dyeing Easter eggs at Nana's house.

Colby pretends to be the Easter bunny.

Wyatt smiles big!

We went to an Easter Egg Hunt at the community park. Wyatt shows off his eggs.

Ava and Wyatt marvel at their candy prizes.

The Easter Bunny visited and left Wyatt some Bruder garbage cans.

And Colby got some toy dinosaurs!

Wyatt wrote Colby's name all by himself.

A slice-of-life pic. Here's little Colby, decked out in camo and stripes, washing his hands. Gotta love life with little boys!

Lucky

The boys woke up from their nap yesterday to find that a wee little man had visited our house. Lucky the Leprechaun left little footprints all over our counter and microwave!

He left behind a mysterious note and gold chocolate coins for the boys.

They searched high...

and low for Lucky...

Alas, a wee leprechaun is hard to catch!

Maple Syrup Festival

Dear blog, we are so sorry to have neglected you for the entire month of February! We promise to do a better job of posting from here on out! And with that, we bring you....

The Maple Syrup Festival! We slogged through a snowfall to start our day with a delicious pancake breakfast at the Hueston Woods Lodge.

Wyatt cleaned his plate!

Colby, not so much. (He's hit or miss with meals, though. Or maybe he just prefers Daddy's homemade pancakes.)

After breakfast, we headed to the Nature Center with high hopes of seeing the bobcat and the cougar cub. Alas, they were in hiding due to the cold temperatures. We were excited to see some birds of prey, though!

Check out the red-tailed hawks! We see them around our area often, and it's always a thrill because they're so beautiful.

Through a fence we were able to catch a glimpse of a bald eagle. There were also some owls, one of which squawked at us for five minutes straight. Sadly, we didn't get his photo. We definitely want to visit the Nature Center again when the weather warms up!

Our final festival stop was the Hayride/Sap Bucket Tour! We piled onto a wagon and waited an eternity for the tour to begin.

At this point, we should mention that it would have done us some good to pay more attention to the bobcat and cougar; if it was too cold for animals with FUR COATS to play outside, it was probably too cold for us. Suffice it to say that we made it through the arctic hayride down the road to the maple trail. We listened to fifteen minutes of a 45-minute speech about sap, and this is about all we have to show for it...

Two boys who were just...done. At that point, we asked a ranger to get us a ride back to the festival. Upon our return, we had a little hot chocolate, toured a historic barn and home, and of course, checked out the trash cans.

It was a really fun day, despite the cold weather! We enjoyed seeing the different parts of Hueston Woods State Park, and we'll definitely pay another visit...when we're not facing sub-freezing temperatures.
