Take Me Out to the Reds Game

Last weekend we lucked out and got Reds tickets through Daddy's work. We were excited to go to the big city and see the Reds take on the Brewers.

As we approached the stadium the boys found a couple of sculptures outside that grabbed their attention.

We took the obligatory "outside the ball park" photos.

And then we made our way to our seats and settled in for the game...or so we thought. It seems our little guys aren't really into baseball. They watched one batter strike out, and that was about the extent of their attention spans.

While their attention spans were lacking, their appetites were plentiful. Colby enjoyed the peanuts (and the shells).

Wyatt enjoyed peanuts, hot dogs, pretzel bites, ice cream, etc. When we asked him after leaving the game what his favorite thing was, he quickly replied, "The food!"

It's okay, though, because he worked it all off at the playground inside the stadium. Doesn't he look like a fifth grader scaling that climbing wall all by himself?

We had a great time at the ballpark, and maybe next year we'll actually get to watch some of the game!

Wordless Wednesday

{"Look at my tongue!" is Colby's favorite new thing to say.}

County Fair

Our trip to the Fair was a fun one, as is almost everything when you've got two crazy boys in tow. We started in the small animal barn, and we marveled at bunnies and chickens and ducks and roosters. Both boys seemed to love all the little critters, but Daddy was excited to bring them to the swine barn. Boy meets hog...

while Other Boy clings to stroller in mortal fear of hog...

Yep, Colby might end up showing bunnies instead of pigs someday. It's all good, though, as long as he gets to drive one of these...

Mommy's favorite barn at the fair is the FarmZone Kids' Area. The boys learn useful skills, such as picking carrots...

...and milking cows!

Wyatt looks like a pro, doesn't he? One handed! Colby looks like he's ready to climb up the cow, but that's only because he finally found a large animal that didn't scare him out of his wits.

We wrapped up our visit to the fair with some greasy food and carny rides, of course. Both boys loved the carousel...

...and Colby rode a ride by himself for the very first time!

We can't wait to go back next year!

Summer Bucket List: Splash Pad

Since it was the 100th day of 100-degree temperatures (or something like that), we decided to take the boys to a local splash pad to cool off. We got Wyatt all suited up, approached the spray tunnel, and...he wanted nothing to do with it. Frankly, we couldn't blame him. There were lots of bigger, louder kids there, and he felt intimidated. It just wasn't his thing. And Colby? Well, we didn't even bother suiting him up! We knew the outcome already.

Maybe Mommy will try to do the splash pad with Wyatt in the morning sometime, when there are less wild people in the way.

Summer Bucket List: Newport Aquarium Visit

We had no idea what to expect when Nana and Mommy took the boys and Ava to the Newport Aquarium recently. Would little Colby freak out at the close proximity of the giant sea creatures? Would Wyatt be totally disinterested in the fish and instead want to spend the entire visit examining the Aquarium's trash cans? Would Ava hold her own with two rambunctious boys? No, no, and yes!

The moment we saw the blue-tinted tanks filled with exotic fish, the kids went cRaZy! They ran up to the tanks, screamed with excitement, and stared for long stretches. Colby was thrilled instead of scared by the sharks and giant turtles. He especially loved the glass floor, where you can walk above the fish. He lay down on the floor and looked at the fish swimming below.

All the kids loved these giant Japanese crabs. Their legs were as long as the kids are tall!

We also got to see Mighty Mike, one of the largest gators in North America. He wasn't all that thrilling, though, because all he did was lie there and stare. Maybe next time we should go during his feeding time! Just look at those teeth!

It was an exciting trip, and we enjoyed spending time with Ava and Nana!

Fourth of July

We walked in the local Fourth of July Parade with some of our MOMS Club friends...

We went for rides in Papaw's sidecar...

Wyatt went to fireworks with Daddy...

And splashed in his pool like a little fish!

It was a fun holiday despite the heat!

Summer Bucket List: Build a Tent

We've been having crazy hot temperatures lately, so Mommy decided to try out an indoors activity with the boys. After a trip to the library for some new books, we set out to build a tent in the living room to sit and read in. Sounds simple enough, right? Well...

The tent didn't exactly want to stay up. And when it did stay, Colby (aka Dr. Destructo) thought it was hilarious to pull it down. Bonus points for pulling it down with Wyatt inside!

This resulted in a wrestling match, and as you can probably guess, not much reading got accomplished. It's okay, though, because the giggles and brotherly bonding that occurred made it all worth it.
