Kids Say the Darnedest Things

  • Wyatt has a Clifford storybook in which the Big Red Dog stops a band of robbers. We were reading it one day and he asked, "Mommy, what are rogers?" Mommy explained that robbers are people who take things that don't belong to them. Wyatt replied, "I don't like rogers, Mommy. I wouldn't like any rogers to come to our house." Heaven forbid we befriend someone named Roger! If we do, he will not be invited over to our house!
  • Shockingly, Colby (our child who won't eat potatoes or green beans) has decided that he LOVES salad. More than salad, though, he loves coupons. You know, the little dried bread toppings that come on a salad? Yeah, coupons.
  • One day after dropping Wyatt off at preschool, Mommy and Colby headed out to the car. We passed two little boys from Wyatt's class who are twins. Upon seeing them, Colby declared, "Doubles! Doubles, Mommy, doubles!"
  •  Mommy has been working on a new headboard for the bedroom. It has velvet tufted buttons on it that took her nine hundred years to put together and attach to the headboard. One day last week, Mommy walked into the bedroom to see one velvet button cover totally ripped off of the headboard. Upon interrogation, Wyatt admitted that he had pulled it off. A few days later, Mommy was repairing the headboard and Wyatt asked, "Are those buttons loose, Mom?" Mommy replied no and jokingly asked Wyatt if he wanted to pull them off. He replied, "Corduroy pulled a button off a bed!" When asked if that's why Wyatt pulled one off, he replied, "Yes, I thought it belonged on one of my shirts." Yeah, buddy, cause you have tons of velvet shirts with buttons the size of a quarter on them!

Halloween Happenings

This Halloween, we experienced a little bit of deja vu. Mr. Wyatt, upon being asked what costume he'd like to wear, promptly replied, "A garbage man!" Yes, he wanted to wear this costume for the second year in a row. Mommy really got lucky here--we purchased a new vest for him at Ikea, and he was good to go...

...or so we thought. You see that cute-as-a-button excavator driver up there? Well, apparently everyone thought that construction workers must travel in packs, because when they saw our little guys coming to their doorstep, everyone said, "Oh, two little construction workers!" That is, everyone except the teenager who saw Wyatt and exclaimed, "Look! A crossing guard!" And the woman who saw him and declared, "Oh my gosh! He's a little City of Hamilton worker!"

So yeah, poor Wyatt was a little misunderstood this Halloween, but as you can tell from his candy haul, it all turned out fine in the end...

And despite horrible weather, both boys really did have a great time. They stole every opportunity to jump into puddles (hey, they were wearing work boots!), and the cold, wet wind didn't seem to bother them one bit. They marched right up to each house and declared, "Trick or treat!" Toward the end, Wyatt got a little tired of carrying his pumpkin, but thankfully Auntie Kim was willing to be his valet. Thanks, Auntie Kim!

After trick-or-treating, we headed back to Nana and Papaw's house for some dinner and pumpkin bowling with Cousin Ava. We had so much fun this Halloween!
