J-E-L-L-O!

"What?! I'm supposed to eat that? But it's red and jiggly. I don't know about this."

"Oh, I can't bear to look. Go ahead, Daddy, just try to get that stuff into my mouth!"

"Hey, it's not so bad! I kind of like the jiggly-ness of it. And it's sweet!"

"I liked that so much, in fact, that I'll feed some to myself. "

"Please, no pictures. Give a man his dignity while he eats!"

Wyatt's Reading List

1. Barnyard Dance by Sandra Boynton Wyatt loves the rhythm and rhymes in this book. He bounces and bops as Mommy reads the first line: "Stomp your feet, clap your hands, everybody ready for a barnyard dance!"

2. It's Night-Night Time by Twin Sisters Productions No bedtime routine is complete without a bedtime story, and this is Wyatt's favorite hands-down. When Mommy pulls it off the shelf he shrieks in excitement, and Daddy enjoys "editing" the story as he reads it aloud.

3. Baby Touch and Feel Animals by DK Publishing Wyatt is a very tactile little guy, so this book is right up his alley. He likes to feel the bunny's soft fur and the kitten's scratchy yarn.

4. Mr. Brown Can Moo, Can You? by Dr. Seuss No children's reading list would be complete without Dr. Seuss. Wyatt loves this silly book of sound effects. His favorite sound is the buzz-buzz of the bees. It makes him giggle every time.

5. Spot Goes to the Farm by Eric Hill Wyatt's favorite! Mommy and Daddy often catch him reading this book on his own, his little fingers carefully lifting the flaps to discover what's underneath. Sometimes he "loves" this book a little too much and Mommy has to doctor up the flaps with scotch tape. Wyatt also has Spot's First Christmas, which he enjoys reading year-round.

We're sure his reading tastes will change as he grows, and we're excited to see what kind of reader Wyatt becomes. Will he be a lover of sci-fi and fantasy like Daddy, or will he prefer realistic fiction like Mommy? Only time will tell!

So, do any of you readers out there have a book recommendation for Wyatt? Leave a comment and tell us what books your little ones enjoyed!

Fun with Finger Food

Once Wyatt sprouted teeth, we decided to let him try out some finger foods. His first finger food was a Gerber product called Yogurt Melts. He was so excited when we first put one on his tray. It was fun to watch him concentrate so hard on picking up the food...

He tends to favor his left hand. Maybe we have a little southpaw?

After getting the food in his hand, Wyatt wasted no time putting it right in his mouth...

At first he struggled a little with getting the food to stay in his mouth (Yogurt Melts are a little sticky), but he eventually got the hang of it...

It's been about two months since our boy started finger foods, and now he's eating like a pro. He has no trouble at all wolfing down Yogurt Melts, Cheerios, Gerber Puffs, green beans, toast and waffles. Mommy and Daddy can't put the food on the tray fast enough! We do have to be careful, though, because Wyatt has a sneaky habit of shoving too many things into his mouth at once.

We've had a lot of fun watching our little piggy discover the joy of feeding himself. It's just one more milestone on his way to growing up!

Saturdays

Ah, Saturdays. In the days BW (Before Wyatt), Saturdays meant sleeping in well past 9 a.m., leisurely eating a nice breakfast while reading the paper, and debating whether we should go shopping or just sit around and watch Entourage and Curb Your Enthusiasm all day. Yep, we were livin' the dream!

Saturdays PW (Post Wyatt) are slightly different. Wake up at seven. Debate whether you should let your spouse sleep in, or play dead so your spouse will get up instead. Walk the dogs while carefully maneuvering the stroller. Crack up laughing as Wyatt uses his monster voice while demanding a piece of French toast. Crack up again as he de-pantses his Mommy while she picks up his toys. Who needs shopping or TV shows when you've got a little jokester around for constant entertainment? Mommy and Daddy will gladly take PW Saturdays over BW Saturdays. Now we're really livin' the dream!

Kaitlyn's Baby Shower

On Sunday, Mommy and Nana hosted a baby shower for Uncle Brad's girlfriend, Kaitlyn, who is expecting a little girl in late September. It was a great time, especially since we got to meet Kaitlyn's mom and sister, who are every bit as sweet as Kaitlyn herself...

We also got to catch up on lost time with Cousins and Aunts, like Billie, Brittany, and Jean...

Mommy can't even begin to tell you how hard it was to take this picture! Aunt Jean does not like to be photographed, and she's a lot stealthier than she looks!

Cousin Brittany brought her little cutie pie, Peyton. He is seven months old and a sweetheart of a baby. We didn't hear a peep from him the entire time. Of course, everyone was excited to see him and Wyatt together...

Someone joked that it looks like Wyatt is trying to help Peyton sit up. What a Boy Scout!

Cousin Tara brought her sweet girl, Callie. See Callie's doll there? She wanted everyone at the shower to know that it is NOT a real baby. Aren't kids cute!?

It's always easy to find Cousin Sue at a family gathering; just look for the baby. Seriously, this lady is the go-to girl when it comes to holding little bundles of joy...

And the babies just love Sue! She's just a gentle person and they really sense that. Mommy can just picture her now holding Brad and Kaitlyn's little girl at this year's Christmas party.

We all had fun talking, eating and playing games. Nana and the Beach Bums (Auntie Kim, Aunt Sherri, Cousin Leanne and Holly) reminisced about their crazy Myrtle Beach shenanigans...

Kaitlyn received lots of adorable outfits and items for the nursery. Speaking of the nursery, take a look...

Now doesn't that look like a sweet place for a little girl to snooze away the hours?

We're looking forward to meeting the newest little addition to the family, and we appreciate everyone who came to share Kaitlyn's special day!

Ten Months

Our boy is a whopping TEN MONTHS OLD today! He'll have no more single-digit-month birthdays. (Okay, Mommy is being a little neurotic and sentimental.) But he is so big now and able to do lots of things that we never thought he'd grasp so fast. At ten months old, Wyatt can...
  • crawl like a maniac
  • pull himself up to standing
  • let go and stand alone for a few seconds
  • say Quack and Mama
  • pick up and feed himself finger foods
  • drink out of a sippy cup
He has a lot of wispy strawberry blonde hair, and just look at those baby blues...

What a sweet face! But that's not all! He's also sporting three little pearly white choppers these days, and he's working on one more. Aw, such a sweet smile...

He is still our little baby, though. We're reminded of this often, like when he gets hurt or tired and finds comfort only in our arms. Or when he pulls up on our legs and looks up at us as if we're ten feet tall. Or when he stands by the window and stares out at that great big ol' world out there...

Happy Ten Months, Sweet One. We'll love you forever, we'll like you for always, and as long as we're living, our baby you'll be!
