Catching Up

Long time, no blog! It seems like Mommy hasn't been keeping up with the Happenings. Sorry everybody! Mommy will work harder to post more about what's happening in Wyatt's world.

This past weekend was a busy one! Saturday Wyatt and Mommy went to the Pork Festival with Auntie Kim and Aunt Sherri. It was a loooooong day of craft shopping, but Wyatt handled it like a trooper. He rode in the stroller and people watched. Maybe we'll take him again next year!

On Sunday we took Wyatt to a 75th birthday party for Aunt Jean. Here's the birthday girl:
Yes, she's wearing a tiara, and when you turn 75 you can wear one too. It was a fun time catching up with relatives that we hadn't seen for awhile and, of course, playing bingo:
That's the birthday girl questioning the caller. Again, when you turn 75 you can do as you please!

Wyatt enjoyed spending time outside. Papaw pushed him on the baby swings, and Nana showered him with attention, too:
Yep, that's a Bengals jersey he's wearing. And he brought them luck! They won their game against Green Bay, much to everyone's surprise!

It was a fun way to end a busy weekend. Speaking of busy, the next couple of weeks should be busy, too. We're getting ready for Wyatt's birthday, and we're anxiously awaiting the birth of Wyatt's newest cousin. We'll keep you updated!

P.S. Do you remember what made this day important one year ago? If you do, leave your answer in the comments. Let's see who has a good memory!

Weekend Recap

Well, it's one week late, but Mommy is finally getting around to writing about our wonderful Labor Day weekend. Warning: lots of pictures ahead! We started out with a trip to Smith Park in Middletown on Friday evening. We strolled along the walking trail with Wyatt...

He enjoyed looking at all the people at the park and seemed especially interested in watching a soccer team practicing shots on goal. (Mommy hopes this is a hint at Wyatt's future sports endeavors!) Along the way, we stopped for a Cheerios break and look what our flexible boy did...

Yep, he slung his little ol' foot right up there on his stroller tray. Wyatt actually does this often, and Mommy and Daddy have lovingly dubbed it his "monkey foot". After our walk we decided to try out the swings...

Yep, he really liked the swings. He also liked watching the kids playing on the splash pad that faces the swings. We had a great time at the park and plan to go back often as Wyatt gets bigger. Before we know it the monkey foot will be replaced by monkey bars!

On Saturday we ran errands and did some shopping. (Sorry, but we didn't take any pictures of that!)

Sunday was a big day for us! Mommy went to Kaitlyn's baby shower and got to meet her side of the family. They were very nice, as well as generous! Uncle Brad almost couldn't fit all the gifts in his truck!

While Mommy was at the shower, Daddy and Wyatt traveled to Maysville, Kentucky for a Hickle family get-together. Wyatt got to meet some of his cousins...

Isn't it funny that they all have a similar hair color? Must be genetic! Wyatt also got to meet his great Aunt Peg...

She is Great-Grandpa Carl's sister, and it was her 80th birthday! It was nice for Wyatt to meet more of Daddy's side of the family. Here are four generations of Hickle men...

What a good-lookin' group of guys!

On Labor Day, we spent the first part of the day hanging out. Mommy and Daddy straightened up the office (well, some of the office--it's a big job!) and Wyatt took a long morning nap. Later in the day, Nana, Papaw, Uncle Brad and Kaitlyn came over for dinner. Of course, Wyatt was the center of attention...

He looks like he's leading everyone in song! Perhaps we have a future maestro on our hands. We definitely have a little clown on our hands, as Wyatt treated us all to a display of the goofiest faces he can make. Mommy fed him puffs and peaches, which made him squint his eyes and scrunch up his nose. Such a cheeser!

Wyatt enjoyed playing with Papaw...

And, yes, Wyatt was reading to Papaw, not the other way around! He also treated us all to a demonstration of his walking skills. If you haven't already watched the video, just scroll down!

We had a great Labor Day weekend, all because we spent it with family. And the next big family event is due on or around September 26th...

Uncle Brad and Kaitlyn will welcome little Ava into the world. Wyatt can't wait to meet his new cousin!

Patriot Day

Another September 11th. Another gorgeous late summer morning without a cloud in the sky. But we all know it's more than that. Someday Wyatt will ask us why this day is so important. We will tell him that this day is a reminder of how lucky we are to live in this country, to have another hour to spend with our loved ones, to enjoy the freedom of simply being alive.

Little People, Big Farm

Wyatt learned a very important lesson recently: Good things come in amazon.com boxes. Daddy had some online gift certificates, so he decided to order Wyatt a sweet Little People Farm set. Wyatt and Daddy worked together to open the box...

and then Wyatt read the instructions to Daddy...

We don't know who has more fun playing "farm"--Wyatt or Daddy...

This is a great toy that our little guy can grow into. Right now he's fascinated with raising and lowering the door on the silo; in a year or so, he'll be creating little imagined storylines that involve cows flying off the silo's roof. Yee haw!

Eleven Months

Wyatt decided to do his own post today. He's advanced for his age--which is ELEVEN months! Can you believe it? Our big boy is more mobile than ever, pulling up on couches, window ledges, TV stands, grown-ups' legs, gates, and anything else he can grab onto. He also likes to scoot along while pulling up. Maybe he'll just let go one day soon and start walking.

We celebrated the day by going to play at our friend Rachel's house. She's a cute little redhead and Wyatt planted a big slobbery kiss on her chin not once, but twice! She smacked the top of his head twice, once with her fist and once with a block. Ah, young love.

Wyatt was more than excited to play with Mommy's laptop during today's photo shoot. Anything with batteries or a power cord gets him all worked up...

Happy Eleven Months, Wyatt Man! Mommy and Daddy love you so much!
