Three Months
Baby Jackson is three months old today. Y'all! That's a quarter of a year! He's wearing a cute bib from Auntie Laura and Uncle Winfield in that photo, and boy does he need it! Our little guy is a spitter and a drooler these days. We're not expecting a tooth to pop through any time soon, but we know the teething process has probably begun.
This month Jackson has become more interested in people than ever before. He looks at us and wants to touch us. He smiles like it's his job. He also tries to talk to us, although it usually sounds something like, "A-goo. Aggle aggle aggle. Shahhhhh!"
A big milestone this month has been reaching for objects. When he's in his bouncy seat, Jackson will reach up for the toys hanging on the bar above him. He also reaches for things we hold in front of him. One of his favorite things to grab is hair. Ouch!
Jackson continues to win over everyone each day with his cute, squishy self. One of his biggest fans is this guy...
Brotherly love! Is there anything better?

Halloween
We had a lot of Halloween fun this year, starting with a visit to the
pumpkin patch. We hit up Garver Family Farms and were thrilled to learn
that you can go out into the patch and cut your own pumpkin! Sadly, we
waited until the weekend before Halloween to go, and the only pumpkins
left were either green or rotten. We did have fun in the giant pumpkin
patch, though, and we were able to pick a pre-cut pumpkin from
the barnyard. Wyatt also found a ginormous pumpkin stem that he still
loves to examine.
A couple of days before Halloween, we set out to carve our
pumpkin. Daddy graciously volunteered to pull the guts out, and Mommy
carved the face. Here's the final product...
We attended a couple of fun parties--one with MOMS Club and one with
Wyatt's preschool--but the real fun was trick-or-treat! Jackson didn't
go out, but he dressed up as a tiger...
Wyatt was a trash can! He and Mommy made this costume together, so it
was extra special, and you can bet that he was the only kid out there
dressed as a trash can!
Mommy and Daddy didn't dress up, but we sure did enjoy watching the kids living it up! (We may also have enjoyed eating one or two or thirty pieces of the kids'candy as well!)

Kids Say the Darnedest Things
- Colby often says "lasterday" instead of yesterday.
- At Wyatt's Turtleman birthday party, Mommy explained to the kids that they all get to be Turtleman for the day. Colby looked at Ava and said, "Ava, you get to be Neil!" (In case you don't watch "Call of the Wildman" on TV, Turtleman catches wild animals and Neil is his less adventurous assistant.)
- The other day Wyatt asked, "Mommy, why didn't you ever have a job?"
- At the library, Mommy was nursing Jack with the nursing cover on. Wyatt peeked through the top of the cover and noticed that Jack had fallen asleep. He said, "Mommy, Jack's asleep and your boob is hanging out. You'd better put that away."
- Both boys have started singing the COPS theme song, "Bad Boys". (They heard it on a garbage truck video on Youtube.)
- On a recent visit to IKEA, one of the boys looked at a folically challenged shopper and said in a loud voice, "Why doesn't that man have any hair!?"

Jackson: Two Months
Happy second monthday, Jackson! You've changed so much in the past month; you're definitely out of the newborn stage and into the infant stage. You're still an easygoing little man. You're a great eater, you're a pretty good sleeper, and you definitely love to be around people. Just seeing a familiar face or hearing a familiar voice makes you smile. Speaking of smiling...
Just look at that grin! Mommy can't get enough of that gummy smile. And these days, it's usually followed by some cooing. You say "oh" and something resembling "I good". Some days you're so eager to talk that you coo for several minutes straight!
You're growing fast, little man! You weigh over 14 pounds and you wear size 3-6 month clothes. Everybody loves your double chin and chunky legs! Mostly, though, we just love your sweet baby-ness. We're looking forward to seeing what the next month brings!

Five
Wyatt, today you turn five years old! We're so excited to help you celebrate your special day. Mommy and Daddy prepared some fun things to greet you as you came downstairs in the morning...
We kept you home from school because you were sick, so you had a fun day of playing with your new play-doh garbage truck and helping make your birthday cake...
Later we had cake first and then headed to dinner at your choice of restaurants--Frisch's!
You've grown into quite the little man over the past year, Wyatt. Here are some fun facts about you...
- Your love of all things garbage is as strong as ever. You plan to grow up to be a Rumpke man. You practice your trash-can-emptying skills in the driveway almost every day. You help gather all the household trash and take it outside. When we are at a party you offer to throw away everyone's plates when they're finished (and sometimes when they're not). A funny thing is when we catch you "stalking" someone--watching them as they eat the last bites of food so you can swoop in and get their plate.
- You are Colby's best friend and mortal enemy at the same time. You guys can play and have fun together and scheme together like the best of buddies. You especially enjoy bonding over potty talk and fart noises (much to Mommy's dismay). You get very frustrated, though, when he bothers the toys that you're playing with. Hey, Colby didn't earn the title Dr. Destructo for nothing!
- You love school. Your teacher sent home a progress report that said you ask lots of questions. That's a wonderful thing! Your best friends at school are Ava, Adalynn, Riley and Brenna. Yes, all girls.
- You're the BEST little helper, and you seem to be happiest when you have a job to do. From loading the dishwasher to folding the towels, you're a workhorse, for which we are eternally grateful!
- You're observant and inquisitive. If you wake up in the morning and Mommy has left a dish on the counter, you're very likely to ask what was in it, who ate it, where the food is now, and why it wasn't put in the sink. If the Rumpke man plan falls through, you'd make an excellent detective.
- Your favorite books are about the Berenstain Bears. Mamaw gave you several of Daddy's BB books from when he was a little boy, and you love to read them before bedtime. You also like Arthur books. We had a very interesting dicussion the other night about why the illustrations of Arthur are so different in his newer books. He looks a lot more like a human than he did in the first Arthur books.
- Your favorite TV show is Curious George. We watch so much of this show that Mommy has become obsessed with trying to mimic George's language. This highly annoys you.
- You love the color blue so much that you get furious when Daddy gives Colby a blue dinner plate and you get an orange one. It's like World War III.
- You're very affectionate. Mommy loves to be surprised by an "I love you" from you!
- You adore baby Jackson. Everything he does cracks you up! And you help calm him down when he gets upset in the car.
- Your favorite foods are: Eggo blueberry waffles, chicken tenders/nuggets, ham sandwiches, and fortune cookies. It's all about the carbs around here.
We could go on and on, Mr. Wyatt. You're just so smart, cute and busy, and we're so thankful that you're ours. We love you very much!
