Going Up the Slide

Colby has been LOVING our play set lately. He climbs up the ladder and sometimes he climbs up the slide. He really likes to do this on his own, and he exclaims, "By self! By self!" all the way up.

The slide isn't the longest or the fastest, but it's good enough for Colby. He goes down on his bottom most times, but he also likes to belly slide. Guess who taught him that trick!

Sometimes he even likes to go down the slide sideways! What a big boy he's becoming! When we first bought this play set two years ago, it was a different little boy who was going up the slide...

Look how tiny Wyatt was! And did you notice that he and Colby are wearing the same shirt in these photos? Gotta love hand-me-downs!

And this was little Colby snoozing while his big brother played. My, how he's grown!

Story Time at the Library

We've been attending Toddler Story Time at the local library every Wednesday. The librarian, Miss Annette, does a lovely job of leading the children in songs, books and discussion. The very first time we attended, Wyatt sat in his chair most of the time instead of on the carpet with the other children. He listened, but he didn't participate much. As the weeks passed, though, he warmed up and decided that he would join the other kids on the carpet in dancing and listening to books. He still likes to sit on his chair for part of the session, but he has come a long way! And the cutest thing is seeing him go up and give Miss Annette a big hug at the end of Story Time. Mommy thinks he'll do just fine next fall when he starts preschool!

And a funny side note:  It seems that girls in the 2-4 age range are MUCH more willing to sing, dance and participate than boys are. At one point, Mommy looked around the room and noticed that all the girls were down on the carpet talking and all the boys were sitting silently in their mommies' laps. Crazy, right?

I Say Krispy, You Say Kreme!

Last Friday we took a tour of a local Krispy Kreme factory with our friends from the MOMS Club. It was quite interesting seeing the plant's inner workings--fountains of glaze coating; little armies of donuts marching in a line; and an I-Love-Lucy-like assemblage of employees quickly grabbing donuts from the line to fill those lovely green and white containers. Wyatt, of course, was fascinated with the various receptacles being used in the plant, specifically white trash cans. We asked the plant manager what they contained and he explained that white is always used for food products. Well, don't ya learn something new every day!?

And isn't Mr. Colby just darling in his Krispy Kreme cap? He wore it for all of thirty seconds, which is exactly thirty seconds longer than Wyatt was willing to wear it. It was all good, though; they sent us home with more than a dozen free donuts! What's better than donuts? FREE donuts, of course!

Kids Say the Darnedest Things

Yep, he's in a cardboard box. He often climbs in and begs, "Mommy, shut me up!" And believe me, there are days when I think, "If ONLY I could shut you up, just for a few minutes!" But really, Wyatt the Talker comes up with some pretty adorable statements, as evidenced by the following:

  • "Mommy, why does Colby poop in his diaper? Why doesn't he poop in the toilet? Is he afraid he'll fall in the toilet? What would we do if he fell in?"
  • "Mommy, how did God put my ears on my head?"
  • "I feel better today. I'm all swelled up!"
  • After Colby's sneezing fit: "Mommy, Colby's bless you-ing all over the couch!"
  • "I would like to have bunk beds." When asked if he'd take the top bunk or the bottom, he replied, "I'll sleep on the bottom and Colby will sleep on the bottom with me."
And not to leave little Colby out, he's had a few gems of his own:

  • The grocery store we shop at has an older man who gathers the carts in the parking lot and empties the trash cans. He seems like a loner, but his most distinguishing feature is his long white beard. The last couple of times we've seen him, Colby has shouted, "Ho ho ho!" Yes, Colby believes that in the off-season, Santa is employed at Meijer as a cart collector. Thankfully, the man seems somewhat amused by it!
  • At the library today, we were waiting for the elevator, and he kept saying, "Alligator! Alligator!" Come to think of it, elevator and alligator do indeed sound similar!

What will these kids come up with next?
