Sneaky Colby

"Hey, Mom, don't I look cute sitting here in my little chair?"

"Hmmm...what's that over there?"

"Let me take a closer look. Is that what I think it is?"

"Wyatt's sucker? Yum! Let me take a big ol' slobbery lick! Let's keep this between you and me, Mom, okay?"

Floridaaaaah

What on Earth could lead us drive FOURTEEN HOURS in an SUV packed with food, clothing, toys, strollers, gear, and two children under the age of four? Why this, of course...

Destin, Florida (or Desitin, Florida, as Wyatt initially called it) is gorgeous enough to make you forget all the whining, seat-kicking, iPad tossing, and gas station diaper changes endured on the journey south. Just look at that blue-green water! And the sand is the softest, whitest, most powdery stuff your feet ever stepped on. It's so soft that it even makes little squeaking noises when you walk!

Wyatt and Colby had a blast digging in the sand and dumping water everywhere. Wyatt also enjoyed gathering seaweed "trash" to dump in his makeshift "sandfill".

The grown-up folk had fun playing in the water and relaxing under the EZ-up.

Colby cracked us up with his Ray Charles impersonations. At one point, we even had him singing "Georgia!"

In addition to beach fun, we checked out a couple of local attractions, including the Gulf Breeze Zoo. It was neat to be able to pet the llamas and goats. Colby really wasn't having any part of that giraffe. (In fact, it seems that our little boy who loves to read about animals isn't such a fan up close.)

We also went to a small science museum in Fort Walton Beach. Mommy doesn't know who had more fun--the kids...or the grown-ups! Everyone loved the bubbles, though, especially Colby!

The best part of the vacation was spending time with family. The Hickle siblings have only one visit at Christmas to be together each year, so it was wonderful to have a whole week together on vacation! The boys had fun playing with the aunties, Uncle Michael, Winfield and Mamaw and Grandpa.

We made some great memories on this trip, and we want to thank Auntie Laura and Auntie Danielle for putting it together!

Happy Birthday, Daddy!

Even giraffes love Daddy! He's the funniest, sweetest, most caring guy we know, and we want to wish him a very happy day. We love you, Daddy!

Half Past Three

Little Wyatt, it can't be possible that you are closer to four than you are to three, but so you are. This age is so full of contradictions. On the one hand, you are able to do so many things for yourself. Just this morning you made your own waffle (complete with "quit-it" butter, your name for "i can't believe it's not butter"). You can dress and undress yourself. You can climb into the car. You can empty all the trash cans. Yet, for all the things you do on your own, there are plenty of things you insist you need help with. These include putting on your tennis shoes, going upstairs or to the bathroom in the dark, and cleaning up messes.

Also a study in contradictions is the plethora of moods you go through in one day. Sometimes you can be so happy and sweet, telling Mommy and Daddy that you love them so much. You even say, "I'll keep you forever," which is the most adorable thing Mommy has ever heard. Sometimes, you can be so helpful, even to little Colby. The other day he fell and hurt himself and you hurried to get his blankie to bring it to him. Sometimes you are quiet and focused. You can sit and rearrange your toy trash cans for long stretches of time.

Sometimes, though, you are frustrated and insistent. Tantrums at mealtimes are a frequent occurrence around here. (If there is anyone who would like to come and feed our children dinner while Mommy and Daddy go do more fun things like, oh say, cleaning toilets or getting root canals, please let us know!) Sometimes you are easily annoyed by your brother, and you like to annoy him back. This usually involves a toy, although it can also involve wrestling with each other. Sometimes you are shy. Mommy often sees this side of you when we go to MOMS Club meetings. You freeze at the door, refusing to enter the room and asking if we can just go home. After awhile, though, you can be convinced to come inside and sit on Mommy's lap. Gradually, you feel more willing to get down and go play with the other kids.

Mr. Wyatt, you are growing by leaps and bounds. You are a big boy who sleeps in a toddler bed now. Just last week, you started calling us Mom and Dad instead of Mommy and Daddy. And oddly enough, you love to tell us to look at your feet, a command which is often followed by a foot thrust into our faces. You seem to think your feet are getting huge and will soon be fitting into Daddy's shoes.

Not a day goes by that you don't amuse us or impress us with your actions and statements. We love you, Wyatt!
